What a stationery counter in Andhra Pradesh counts before reopening day
Your own online shop
A page of the Telugu and English guides and the notebooks, class by class, to share with the parents before the school reopens.
Online orders
A parent sends the school's list from home and you pack it, so the queue at the counter is shorter on the busiest days.
Offers for regular customers
A coupon kept for the family whose children's lists you filled on reopening day, to use when the same children come back for the mid-year notebooks.

Weavers, cashew workers and mango growers: whose children come in
The children who come in for notebooks are the children of the district's families, and what their parents do for a living shapes the weeks the shop is busy.
- Venkatagiri sarees, woven on pit looms, are Tirupati district's One District One Product, and about 3,064 households make them. The children of those households come in with the same school lists as every other.
- The district portal says the Palasa cashew market in Srikakulam is the largest cashew kernel centre in Andhra Pradesh. The families around it count their money by the season.
- Nunna Mango Market, on the edge of Vijayawada, gets its mangoes from farmers of NTR, Eluru and Krishna districts. The mango season ends close to the weeks the school year begins.
A staff-room bill for the head, a warning on covers, the June notebook for a child
The head reads the staff room's list at the month's end
A teacher takes chalk, attendance registers, chart paper and ink for the whole staff room and does not wait to pay. Each item goes on the school's page with its date and rate. At the month's end the head reads the page item by item, and nobody sends the teacher back to the counter for a correction.
The labels from the press next door are counted like the covers
The brown paper covers come in a pack, but the name labels are printed for you at the press next door. Count both as items. When the labels run low the count tells you early, and you take the order to the press while some are still on the shelf.
The child does not start the year without a notebook
In June the money is short and the school year starts anyway. The child takes the notebooks home on the first Monday, the family pays what it can, and it leaves without an argument. You do not have to choose between the child's notebook and your own account.

Why the fortnight before reopening day cannot be run from the school's list
A child wants the Telugu guide and the English guide for the same lesson
Children study from books in both languages, and a parent often wants both guides for the same lesson. They sit on two shelves, with two rates and two counts, and the English one runs out first in some weeks and the Telugu one in others. You find out only when a parent asks for the second and you have the first.
A teacher buys chalk, registers and charts for the whole school
A teacher from a school nearby comes in with a list for the staff room: chalk, attendance registers, chart paper, ink. She wants a bill she can hand to the head, with each item and its rate. You write it by hand on a bill book, and the head sends her back to ask for a correction.
A parent who can pay only part of the list this week
June comes before the harvest money does. A parent stands at the counter with a list and a smaller purse and asks if she can take the notebooks now and the rest later. You do not want a child to start the year without a notebook, and you cannot remember what the family took last time.
Questions from stationery and book shops in Andhra Pradesh
The Telugu guide and the English guide look alike. How do I stop the wrong one going in the bag?
Put the language in each guide's item name, such as Class 8 science, Telugu, and Class 8 science, English. The name shows on the bill, so the parent reads it before she pays.
A mother wants all six notebooks covered before she leaves. Can the covering be a line on the bill?
Yes. Make the covering an item with its own rate and bill it by the notebook. The mother reads one total for the notebooks and the covering, and the brown paper count comes down with each job.
A parent orders name labels printed at the press next door. Can the order wait on her page until the labels come?
Yes. Put the order on her page with the day and what she paid. When the labels arrive from the press, make the bill for the balance under the same name, and the page shows both.
Textbooks on the first day of school
Andhra Pradesh schools reopened on 12 June 2026 after the summer break, with the government arranging to give textbooks to students from the first day of classes. Parents come to the counter that same week, with the children's lists in their hands.
For 2024-25 the Education Department printed 4.42 crore textbooks for distribution on 12 June; Grade 1 to 10 maths, science and social science books are bilingual in Telugu and English. A family that wants one more book to practise from, in either language, still comes to the shop.
