Billing for your stationery and book shop in Haryana
Every book on the bill with its rate, so the parent who asks can see for herself.

The parent with a school list, the board book beside the publisher's, and the wedding card
The school sends parents to one shop, and then the notice says nobody can be forced
A school points the parents to a shop. Then the officers say that no school can force a parent to buy from a recommended shop. Now parents walk into every shop and ask the same thing: what does this cost here, and why? A shopkeeper who answers from memory sounds like one who is hiding something, and the parent goes to the next shop.
For one subject there is the board's book and the publisher's book
In the same class, the board's book for a subject sits on one shelf and a private publisher's costlier book for the same subject sits on another. The school's list may name either. A parent who asks for the cheaper one has to be shown it, and the two are easy to mix up when the shelf is full and the counter is crowded in the first week of the session.
The panchayat office and the village school order registers, files and chalk in bulk
A village office buys a pile of registers, files and pens for its year of work, and a school buys chalk, charts and files. Both pay when their money is released, which may be weeks away. The order is large, the bill must be in the office's name, and the slip with the count sits in a drawer until the money comes.

An itemised bill, two books for one subject and a card order on its own page
The parent's choice written on her own bill
Enter each book as its own item with its printed rate. When a parent picks the board's book and not the publisher's, her bill shows that choice line by line. She can read it before she pays, and it goes to her phone on WhatsApp, so the answer to her doubt is on paper.
A new class list in the middle of the session
When a school sends a new class list in the middle of the session, its titles are not on your shelf. Add each new title as an item and send the supplier one order for the whole list, so you are ordering for the list and not for the first parent who asks.
The office's register order billed in its name and kept apart
Make the bill in the panchayat office's or the school's name, with every register, file and pen on it. Keep it on a page of its own, apart from the walk-in sales. When the money is released, the page shows the total and the day the order went.

What a Haryana book and stationery shop uses
Bills on your phone
A parent's bill with the board's book and the publisher's book as separate lines, so the choice she made is on the paper.
Low stock warnings
A warning that the board's book for a subject is nearly gone in the first week of the session, while more can still be ordered.
Daily reports
The first week of the session beside the quiet weeks, so the next June's order follows what the families really bought.
Hisar's mills and Sirsa's mandis: the families who come in for the school list
A stationery shop serves the families of the districts around it. These two show some of them.
- Hisar is called the City of Steel and has spinning mills and grain, fruit and herb processing, along with the largest galvanised iron manufacturing unit.
- Paddy piled up at the Sirsa mandis in early October 2026 as procurement lagged.
Lists, board books and wedding cards: what Haryana stationers ask
A school's list names a book I do not stock. What do I tell the parent?
Tell her which title is not on the shelf, and let her see what the books you hold on the list come to. She decides there whether to take them, and the missing one she can buy from any shop she chooses.
In the second week, how do I know which shelf the families preferred, the board's book or the publisher's?
Show each book's count side by side in the week's report. The one whose count fell more is the shelf the families chose, and the next lot follows it, so you do not stock the other twice over.
A block office pays long after the lot. How do I see which lots it has not paid?
Open the block office's page. Each lot is a dated bill and each payment a dated line, so you see how far the payments reach and which lots are still open. Read down from the oldest open lot; that is the one to ask about first.
What Haryana's education officers said about school book lists
In April 2022 Haryana's Directorate of School Education said it would act against private schools that force parents to buy books, stationery, shoes or uniforms from recommended shops. A shop that used to be a school's recommended one now holds the school's set for parents who may or may not buy from it, and its count of each title shows, week by week, how many did.
In April 2025 the Haryana School Education Board chairman said no school can force parents to buy expensive books from private publishers, and defiant schools may face fines. For a stationer the board's own book and the publisher's book are now both on the counter, and the family decides between them. A stationer in a Haryana town keeps both on the shelf, with the rate written beside each, so that the family can compare them at the counter without being pushed either way.
