Billing for your beauty parlour and bangle shop in Jharkhand

The threading, the facial and the box of bangles, each on its own line of one bill.

The chair and the counter read apart, beads and ribbon counted in their own units and a lac set paid in two bills

  1. The lac bangles' lines beside the mirror's, at closing

Make each service an item at its rate, and each box of lac bangles an item at its rate. At closing open today's sales and find the lac bangle lines beside the threading lines. A bride's lac set, billed in two parts, shows on the day it was collected.

  2. Green ribbon and green hair ties, counted before Sawan

When green is what women ask for, the green ribbon and the green hair ties go first. Count each colour of ribbon in metres and each colour of hair tie in pairs, each with its own rate. The shelf then shows how many metres of green are left, and the order to the wholesaler names the greens.

  3. A lac set made to a bride's sizes keeps the sizes in its name

Write the bride's wrist sizes into the name of the item, beside her own name. The slip with the measure can be lost, but the bill is dated and the sizes sit on her page. When the family comes for the set, you find it by her name and read the sizes back before the box is opened.

A parlour chair behind a bangle counter, beads by the string and ribbon by the metre, and a lac set made to a bride's sizes

  • A parlour chair stands behind a bangle counter, and the day is one drawer

In many Jharkhand towns the beauty shop is also the bangle shop. A threading is paid for in the chair, a dozen bangles at the counter, a bindi packet at the door, and all of it goes into one drawer. At night nobody can say how much the chair earned and how much the counter did.

  • Beads by the string, ribbon by the metre, hair ties by the piece

The small things that sell most at a Jharkhand adornment counter are sold in different units: a string of beads, a metre of ribbon, a pair of hair ties. Each is a few rupees, a customer takes several, and the counter adds them in the head and gets it wrong when the queue is long.

  • A lac set is made to a bride's sizes and collected after a few days

A set of lac bangles for a wedding is made to the sizes of the bride's wrists, and it takes days. The family pays a part when the sizes are given and the rest when the set is collected, and the paper with the sizes on it is the only record of what was ordered.

What the phone keeps beside the mirror, the bead strings and the lac bangles

  • Low stock warnings

A warning when a metre-length of ribbon, a string of beads or a size of bangle is nearly gone, so the thing everyone asks for is not the one that is missing.

  • Daily reports

The days a lac set was collected set beside ordinary days, so you see how much of the week one bride's set carried.

  • Orders to suppliers

An order to the lac bangle maker written size by size from what the shelf is short of, and sent from the phone.

Lac fields, a plant town and a capital: who buys adornment in Jharkhand

Adornment sells differently across Jharkhand, from the lac-growing district to the capital's market, and the owner hears about each from her customers.

  • Ranchi, the state capital, is an important centre of trade and commerce in Jharkhand; nearby forests supply furniture, match box and paper industries.
  • The district site lists paddy and sugarcane as Palamu's main crops, and shows lac cultivation in the district.
  • Hazaribagh village trade runs on forest produce: mahua flowers, lac, kendu leaves, leaf plates (dona-pattal) and bamboo baskets, mostly through vyaparis and village sahukars.

Questions Jharkhand parlour and bangle shop owners ask about strings, metres and sets made to order

A regular pays for her threading on the day and for her green bangle set after the festival. Can her page show the two apart?

Yes. Her page lists each bill with its date, one for the service and one for the set. What she still owes shows against the set, and the threading stays settled.

A bride orders a lac set in her own sizes and pays half now. How do I keep it?

Put her wrist sizes in the item's name and bill the half she pays now. When the set is made, read the sizes off the name against the box, then make a second bill under the same name.

Lac bangles can crack in the parcel. Can I order each size as its own line and note which sizes came whole?

Yes. Write each size of the set as a separate line in the order to the maker. When the parcel is opened, note what came against each size, so a size that came short or cracked shows on its own line and not inside one total. The next order to him can then ask for more of that size.

Green bangles of Sawan and the lac of Jharkhand

Before Sawan 2026 (from 30 July), Ranchi markets saw heavy demand for women's adornment items such as green bangles. A shop that stocks them for the month knows that the colour will be wanted by everyone at once and then by few. Ribbon and hair ties that matched the festival's green sell out in the same weeks.

Jharkhand makes almost 54.60 percent of India's lac, which is used in cosmetics and jewellery; Khunti ranks fourth among the state's lac districts. A lac bangle sold in a Jharkhand shop comes from a state that produces much of the country's lac. A shop that sells lac bangles can say so with confidence, and a customer who asks where they come from gets a true answer.
