Billing for your dairy and milk shop in Chhattisgarh
Pouch milk, can milk, set curd and ghee, each sold its own way and billed on one phone.

Why a Chhattisgarh dairy sells mawa by the kilo before a festival and half a litre every morning
Mawa for the sweet shops before the festival, half a litre for the house
A few days before a festival the halwais ring for mawa by the kilo and promise to pay when the festival sales are in. Every morning the same counter serves a house that wants half a litre and pays at the end of the week. The two kinds of customer sit in one notebook, with different weights and different dates of payment, and when the money is short you cannot say which of them is behind.
The morning the rate of ghee changed, and two prices sat on one shelf
When the tax on a pack of paneer or ghee changes, the rate changes on the day. The old stock on your shelf was bought at the old rate, the new lot comes on the next lorry, and the same ghee refill pack sits on the shelf at two prices. A customer who read the news comes in and asks for the new rate on the old pack.
The paneer block planned to last till night, and gone before the evening families come
A block of paneer comes in the morning and you plan it to last the day. By late afternoon it is gone, and the families who come after work for the evening's paneer go home without it. You learn the block was short only when the last of them has already left.

Steel towns on the milk map: Raipur and Bhilai
Two of the state's steel towns, and what each of them lives on.
- Raipur depends on small steel makers, with rolling mills, steel-melting shops and ironmaking units in its Urla and Siltara clusters, as of October 2026.
- Bhilai, in Durg district, is called the Steel City of Central India, and its economy depends mainly on the Bhilai Steel Plant and the small units around it.
From the sweet shop's credit request to the festival-eve count of mawa and paneer
A halwai's mawa request answered by you, not by a promise on the phone
Before the festival the halwais come to you with a request to buy on credit instead of ringing with a promise. You look at each request and approve or refuse it. Whatever an approved shop takes is kept on its own account, apart from the families' milk, so the festival's mawa and the morning's half-litres never share a line.
After GST was removed, the old ghee pack still sits at the old rate
When GST was removed, the Devbhog paneer and the ghee refill packs came down. The old pack was bought before, and a customer asks for the new rate on it. Add the new lot as a second item and leave the old pack at its own rate, so the bill takes the rate of the pack in hand.
The festival eve: mawa and paneer counted at closing, the depot rung at night
Put the kilos of mawa and paneer as stock when they come in. Every sale takes its weight off, so at closing on the eve the phone shows what is left of each. You ring the depot that night for the morning lorry, and the halwais are not turned away at six.

Sell to other businesses
The sweet shops of the district apply to buy mawa from you on credit, and you choose which to approve.
Bills on your phone
Milk by the half-litre and paneer by the weight cut at the counter, billed at the weight the scale showed.
Low stock warnings
Mawa and paneer shown as running out on the festival eve, while the lorry can still bring more by morning.
Daily reports
The mawa and paneer of last year's festival week read back from its days, so this year's order to the depot is made from what sold.
Questions Chhattisgarh dairy shops ask
A halwai from the next district asks for mawa on credit and I do not know him. Do I have to say yes?
No. Mawa goes out by the kilo and is gone. Look at who he is, and who speaks for him, before you say yes; a stranger has no name with you yet.
The paneer I cut never weighs exactly what the customer asked. Can the bill carry the weight I weighed?
Yes. Cut the slice, weigh it, and bill the weight shown. The block's count goes down by that, loss included, so evening families find a true count.
On the festival eve mawa ends early. Can I see it before it ends?
Yes. The phone shows the items that are running low. Read the list when you close, and ring the depot before the lorry's last trip.
The plant canteen wants milk for the morning shift and curd for the noon meal, and the numbers change with the shift. Can both show on its month's page?
Yes. Bill the milk and the curd as two items on each morning's bill, with the litres and the pots that went that day. When the month closes, the page shows the litres of milk and the pots of curd the canteen took, so its cook can match them against his own count.
Devbhog milk and the tax on paneer and ghee
In May 2020 the state cooperative dairy federation, Devbhog, said it had paid milk-producing farmers over Rs 10 crore and was collecting about 95,000 litres of milk a day. A litre of that milk reaches a shop as a pouch, a can or a pot of curd.
From 22 September 2025 the state milk federation cut Devbhog paneer to Rs 376 per kg and ghee refill packs to Rs 613 per litre after GST was removed. When the tax on a pack changes, a bill made yesterday and a bill made today carry different amounts for the same pack.
