Staff shifts are coming soon

This feature is not ready. It does not work today, and nothing here says when it will.

Lunch relief in a cloth shop, the Diwali eve in a sweet shop and the night in a medical store

  • Three assistants and a lunch hour in a cloth shop

The cloth shop has three assistants and one owner. Lunch is taken in turns, and the owner decides in the moment who goes. He keeps the order in his head, and so the assistant who went first yesterday is cross today. When a big customer walks in, he looks around to see who is at the counter. The owner's memory is the only roster, and a memory has a bad day. The assistant who went first yesterday remembers it, and says so in front of the customers.

  • The sweet shop in the last fortnight before Diwali

The helpers stay late, and who goes home when is written on a calendar hung on the wall. By the second week the pencil marks cannot be read, and two helpers have both gone home on the same evening. The counter is left to the owner's wife and a boy of fourteen. The owner learns about it when a customer tells him. The festival fortnight is the time of year when the roster matters most, and it is kept the worst.

  • A medical store that opens at night, with two people to share the nights

In one such shop, an owner and his nephew change places each night. The nephew's exams make the plan change every week, and the change is passed on by a phone call that one of them forgets. Some mornings the shutter is up late, and some nights nobody is sure who is meant to be there. The nephew's exam week is the week the plan is least likely to be remembered.

What a shop can do today, while staff shifts are not here

  • The errand to the wholesaler, on a quiet weekday

On a quiet weekday the third assistant goes to the wholesaler. He takes the order from the phone, with the cloth that ran low, and notes what he brings back. The shifts are still the owner's to write, and so is the lunch order, but the errand is no longer a guess and the shop is not left a hand short for no reason.

  • The helper reads the count without asking the owner

In the last fortnight the owner is at the frying and cannot be asked. The helper at the counter opens the phone and reads how many kilos of each sweet are left, and tells the family at once. The shifts stay on the wall calendar, but nobody calls across the shop for a count.

  • The medical store sees a night's sales the next morning

The nights the owner and his nephew share are still planned by a phone call. What the bills of the night give them is a fact to plan on: how many sales fell after midnight. He did not need a new feature for that, only the bills he already has. Bharatrath does not plan shifts or pay staff. The night's bills only say when the sales came, and the owner and his nephew decide the nights between them, as they always have, from that one fact.

What works today beside the staff shifts that are coming soon

  • Staff shifts Coming soon

Coming soon. It does not work today, and this page does not say what it will do.

  • Daily reports

Works today: the cloth shop reads which days of the month needed all three assistants at the counter.

  • Many shops, one owner

Works today: an owner with two shops reads each shop's day from one account.

  • UPI payments

Works today: a night's payments by QR are one more thing the morning can read, without counting the box twice.

Questions about staff shifts that are not ready

Can I plan my staff's shifts in Bharatrath now?

No. Staff shifts are coming soon and are not ready. Until then, the roster stays where you keep it today, on paper or in your head.

My assistants say Saturday was a hard day and I thought it was quiet. How do I check?

Open Saturday's sales and read how many bills the counter made, as well as the total. A day of many small bills is a busy day at the counter even when the total looks small, and the day stays there to look up whenever you want to settle it.

Will it pay my staff or work out their wages?

No. Bharatrath does not pay staff or work out wages. Salary stays between you and your staff, as it is today.

What do I do in the meantime for the festival rush?

Look up last year's busy days in the daily reports and plan your helpers by them. The plan itself you write on your wall, as before.

Should I wait for staff shifts before starting with Bharatrath?

No. The bills, the stock and the day's sales work today, and they do not depend on staff shifts. Start with what works, and the rest can be added to your account when it is ready.

Who works in India's shops, in two official figures

Regular salaried workers rose to 23.6% of India's workforce in 2025 from 22.4% in 2024, while the self-employed fell to 56.2%, says the PLFS annual report.

Shop work employed more of the small-business workforce than any other activity: 27.55% of the workers in India's unincorporated non-farm sector in 2025 were in other retail trade, says the statistics ministry.
